On its own, the Audi R8 is a supercar to be reckoned with. However, with the horsepower wars exhibiting no signs of hitting the brakes manufacturers have to keep adding more ponies to the stable to ensure the happiness of the riders.

So even thought the R8 can hold its own against its peers, apparently the boys from Ingolstadt have found it necessary to produce a more hardcore version of the R8 to tear up the Autobahn. So claim the folks over at Auto Express.

The shots purportedly show an R8, snapped at a petrol station outside the Nurburgring, wearing a heap of performance pieces lifted directly from the manufacturers racing program.

After getting over the bright orange stripes, you would notice the aggressive front splitter and bigger air intakes on both sides. If it appears familiar, that’s probably because you’ve seen it on the company’s own R8 LMS racer.

Behind the driver sits the 5.2-liter V10 that is said to be packing over 600hp. It also sports a different engine cover and center-up exhaust outlets that exit much like race prepped cars. The brakes have also been beefed up and the cabin gutted to make full use of the extra power hitting the wheels.

Although no details are official on the car, it does appear a pinch too suspect, especially with the MTM number plate holder. Nonetheless, Auto Express remain steadfast and have even mentioned the car will be dubbed the R8 GT RS.
