Benno Senner, president of the Company Senner Tuning AG has once again done a magnificent with the smallest model of the Audi family, theAudi A11.4 T-FSI, which features an improved performance by adding a Chipbox as a performance-enhancing module, now delivering 115 kW and 250 Nm of torque.

The gas signal amplification is provided by a power converter, while a stainless steel exhaust system in the right/left version with silencer and tailpipes ensures ordinary steam handling.

Black-polish rims Corniche Monza in dimension of 8×18 inches combined with wheels give vital road adherence, while medium lowering by 35 millimetres was ensured by Audi A1 in-house sport springs.

All these modifications cost 4590 Euros, but the team also offers coilover with custom height, rebound and compression adjustment and their prices are available on request.

The Audi A1 engine is one of the starting points of the reconstruction presented here. The function of the factory installed air filter now is performed by BMC OTA Power Airbox. To improve performance, a Chipbox was built as a performance-enhancing module, thereby at least 115 kW or 156 hp and torque of 250 Nm are available now. In electronics, a power converter is responsible for the gas signal amplification. For ordinary steam handling, Senner Tuning provides the stainless steel exhaust system in the right or left version including silencer and tailpipes, each 90 millimeters in diameter. Vital road adherence is provided by black-polish rims Corniche Monza in dimension of 8×18 inches combined with wheels. The S1 Evo Tyres are from Hankook. In addition, in-house sport springs provide a medium lowering by 35 millimeters.

The above mentioned modification adds foreseeable 4590 Euros. This Audi A1 amount includes the necessary TÜV registrations and additional warranty. Furthermore, the team from Ingelheim also offers essential coilover with custom height, rebound and compression adjustment, various parts of carbon, refinement of the interior or conversion to LED rear lights. Another advantage: these special daytime running lights consume less energy than normal dipped-beam headlights. This reduces fuel consumption and extends the dipped headlights’ working life. Automatic activation or deactivation can be selected as desired in the vehicle settings. When the dipped-beam headlights are activated by the light and rain sensor, the daytime running lights are automatically switched off.

Audi are pushing ahead with plans for an A9 supersedan to challenge the big boys in the likes of the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-Benz CLS. The A9 will be marketed as a flagship luxury four-door sports coupe based on the A8.

The interesting part about the A9 is that the platform it uses could very well be used to create the production Lamborghini Estoque as well, killing two birds with one really lightweight space frame stone.

The master plan at Audi was always to produce sibling four-door sports coupes to its sedan models, like how the A7 Sportback is to the A6.

Nonetheless, the A9 hasn’t been given the all-clear for take-off yet as a source from Audi tells Autocar, “The project isn’t officially confirmed for production, but work is progressing on the business case, both at an accountancy and engineering level.”

Excellent news then as Audi is considering a platform-sharing process for the A9 that could see the same platform take the Estoque to production as well since Lamborghini is a fellow Volkswagen Group brand.

Just when you thought Audi couldn’t do any worse, the VW-owned German manufacturer is now planning to release a subcompact hatchback called the Audi A1 Sportback. Currently only shown in concept form at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, the A1 wants to take aim at the Mini, but will most likely become known as an overpriced Yaris competitor.

Geeky styling aside, the prototype drivetrain is more interesting. Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 1.4-litre TFSI engine developing 150 hp and 240 Nm of torque, mated to a front-wheel-drive platform and an S tronic dual-clutch transmission. A 20 kW electric motor delivers an additional 27 hp and an extra 150 Nm of torque when the vehicle is accelerating. Acceleration is highest during the boosting phase, which is when the TFSI engine and electric motor operate simultaneously, giving a total of 390 Nm.

Concept features include an ESP-controlled active front differential lock to reduce torque steer due to the front-driven setup, as well as magnetic adjustable shocks, 18-inch wheels, Audi’s useless MMI multimedia system, navigation and a futuristic interior that won’t make it to production.

The electric motor is apparently capable of powering the vehicle alone using lithium-ion batteries, giving the A1 a range of up to 100 km in pure electric mode. The motor can be recharged from any power socket. The automatic start/stop facility, energy regeneration and phases of purely electrical operation reduce the fuel consumption and emissions by almost 30 percent compared to when it is running on the combustion engine alone. Audi says 0-100 kph acceleration happens in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 200 kph, with a fanciful fuel-consumption claim of only 3.9 litres per 100 km. We’ll believe it when we see it.
